Baked Jam Roly Poly

Serves: 6

Time: approx 30 mins

  • 200g Shredded Vegetable Suet
  • 200g Self Raising Powder
  • 1tsp Salt
  • ½ jar of Jam
  • 1 Egg (for glazing)
  • 2 tbsp Sugar (for glazing)

  1. Preheat oven to 180°c or gas mark 4
  2. In a large bowl mix the suet, flour and salt until breadcrumbs form
  3. Add the water little by little until a stiff dough is formed (the mixture should not be sticky, but soft and dry)
  4. On a lightly floured surface roll out the dough into a rectangle shape, about 5mm in thickness
  5. Spread the jam onto the dough leaving a small gap on the edges
  6. Wet the edges with a little water and roll into a fat sausage shape
  7. In a small bowl break the egg and whisk lightly with a fork
  8. Place the pudding onto a grease proof tray
  9. Brush  the egg over the top of the pudding using a pastry brush
  10. Sprinkle the sugar over the top and place in to an oven for 10-15 minutes until golden brown on top.
  11. Allow the pudding to cool for 5 minutes then enjoy a slice of warm Jam Roly Poly

This can be enjoyed with custard, whipped cream or ice-cream. I advise Jam Roly Poly is served warm however it can be served hot or cold.
